The NC❌ Beginner 12-Week Triathlon Training Plan is a fully structured digital roadmap for everyday athletes who want a realistic path to the finish line. Whether you are aiming for your first Sprint triathlon, stepping up to an Olympic, or building toward a Half Ironman (70.3), this program scales to your target race distance.
Twelve weeks is the shortest honest runway for a first triathlon. It is enough time to build an aerobic base, learn to swim in open water, and practice the transitions, without asking you to reorganize your life around training.
What you get in the plan
Day-by-day calendar: a clear, step-by-step layout telling you exactly what to do each day. No guesswork required.
Progressive 3-phase structure: built to safely layer your aerobic engine, starting with Foundation, moving into Capacity and Intervals, and finishing with a Race-Ready Taper.
Zone-based training: simple 5-zone intensity workouts focused heavily on building a large, injury-free Zone 2 aerobic base.
Specific swim and bike drills: detailed technique sessions to make you smoother, more efficient, and more relaxed in the water and on the saddle.
Essential brick workouts: targeted bike-to-run sessions so your legs do not feel like cement when you transition on race day.
Who it is for
First-time triathletes with a race 12 weeks out. Runners crossing over into triathlon who need swim and bike structure. Anyone who has been training without a plan and is tired of guessing whether today should be hard or easy.
Questions we get
Is 12 weeks enough for a first triathlon? For a Sprint, comfortably. For an Olympic, yes if you already have some running or cycling base. For a 70.3, look at the 16 or 24 week plans instead.
How many hours a week? This plan is built for people with jobs and families. It ramps deliberately rather than front-loading volume you cannot sustain.
What do I need to follow it? Pool access, a bike, running shoes, and a watch or app that can track time and distance. Power and heart rate help but are not required.
